Internet Safety
Keeping Students Safe Online and at School
Protecting our children is one of the most important responsibilities we share as parents and educators. In McNairy County, our schools work closely with teachers, families, and community partners to help students learn how to stay safe—both in the classroom and online. We are thankful for the strong support we receive from the State of Tennessee and our local law enforcement agencies in this effort.
Our Policy on Bullying and Cyberbullying
Tennessee law (TCA 49-6-4503) requires every school district to have clear policies against harassment, intimidation, bullying, and cyberbullying. These policies define what each offense means and outline the possible consequences and corrective actions. You can find the full policy on our website under Employee > Policy Manual.
Consequences for bullying vary depending on the seriousness and frequency of the behavior. They may include detention, suspension, alternative placement, or in the most serious cases, expulsion.
What Parents Should Do if Bullying Occurs
If your child experiences bullying, cyberbullying, or has concerns about online safety, please contact the school administrator right away. If the situation happens online, we ask that you provide the school with copies or screenshots of the harmful material so we can respond quickly and appropriately.
How Parents Can Help at Home
Parents also play an important role in keeping students safe. In addition to reviewing and signing the McNairy County Schools Internet Usage Policy, we encourage families to talk regularly with their children about safe and respectful internet use. Even short conversations can make a big difference in helping students understand how to protect themselves and others.
