Internet Safety
One of the biggest challenges facing parents today is the protection of their children. In McNairy County, school officials work hard to educate students, teachers, and parents in best practices that are designed to protect students from dangers they may face when using the Internet or social media. We are grateful for the assistance that the State of Tennessee and local law enforcement agencies provide in this effort.
TCA 49-6-4503 mandates that school systems maintain a policy prohibiting harassment, intimidation, bullying, or cyberbullying that defines each offense and designates consequences and remedial action for a person who commits such an offense. Those policies are located on our website (District > County Policy Manual). The nature of the offense and the degree and duration of its occurrence shall determine the consequence, which may include, but is not limited to, detention, suspension, alternative placement, or expulsion.
If a student enrolled in a McNairy County school experiences bullying (or cyberbullying) or has concerns about Internet safety, the parent is advised to contact the administrator of the respective school. In the event that such an occurrence happens online, the parent will be expected to provide the school administration with copies of the allegedly harmful material.
In addition to reviewing and signing the McNairy County Schools Internet Usage Policy, parents are advised to periodically review recommended protocol with their children.

The McNairy County School District (District) does not tolerate harassment on the basis of disability. Any student who believes that he or she has been subjected to harassment on the basis of disability is encouraged to report harassment to the District. The District is committed to take immediate action to eliminate the harassment, prevent its recurrence, and address its effects. Mrs. Jennifer Hunt, (731) 645-6010, has been designated by the District to receive complaints on the basis of disability. Students and employees found to have engaged in acts of harassment on the basis of disability are warned they will be promptly disciplined and such discipline may include, if circumstances warrant, suspension or expulsion for students or suspension or termination for employees. Students, parents, and School staff are encouraged to work together to prevent harassment on the basis of disability.
