Project ENRICH ( a grant through 21stCCLC funds) continues to show that it is a valuable program for the McNairy County School System. All schools in the district now offer an after school program available for students.
Parents and students at all the schools report that the biggest plus to the program is having certified teachers help students with their homework and having it completed before they go home. Certified teachers make up 65% of the Project ENRICH staff, with an additional 19% other school day staff, and 16% being others from the community.
All planned activities and components of the grant have been implemented. The program is designed to meet the academic needs identified by TCAP scores, formative assessments, and teacher recommendations for “at-risk” students, in addition to those needing extra enrichment activities. Additional “at-risk” students who receive services include ESL students and special education students. Students who scored proficient or advanced on the various assessments are provided with enrichment activities to expand their knowledge and experience base.
The two high schools offer sessions in the morning before school to help with homework and needed academic skill improvement. There are also classes after school for credit recovery and extra help with skills in all subject areas as well as ACT preparation.
PROJECT ENRICH AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM HANDBOOK
Elementary and Middle School
Enrollment
Parents or guardians of students at Adamsville Elementary, Bethel Springs Elementary, Michie Elementary, Ramer Elementary, Selmer Elementary, and Selmer Middle Schools may apply for the Project ENRICH after school program by completing and signing an application and returning it to school. Student applications received after new calendars have begun will be placed on a waiting list if space is not available in the current sessions.
Parent/Guardian Responsibilities
There is no cost for student participation in the Project ENRICH after school program for Monday through Thursday sessions. Parents or guardians are strongly encouraged to participate in two parent involvement activities per year or volunteer to assist with school activities. These parent involvement activities may include Family Fun Nights, School Open House, or parent involvement activities planned by a collaboration with other agencies. Volunteer activities may include sharing a hobby, special skill, or experience with students, tutoring students, chaperoning a school sponsored event, or other approved volunteer activity.
No medicine will be dispensed during the after school program. Any student participant needing medicine (prescription or non-prescription) will need to have a parent/guardian/designee bring and administer the medicine. In case of a health emergency, 911 and parents/guardians will be contacted immediately. There is not a nurse on duty during Project ENRICH.
Dismissal time for Project ENRICH After-School Program will be 5:15 each afternoon. A three (3) strike policy will be in effect. Failure to pick up children by 5:15 P.M., the designated time, will equal one (1) strike or parents may choose to pay a $5 fine for being late 1 – 15 minutes and $10 for 16 – 30 minutes. Three strikes and the student (s) will not be allowed to participate in Project ENRICH After-School Program. Students may reapply the next year or be placed on the waiting list for the next semester.
Student Responsibilities
All rules of the McNairy County Code of Behavior and Discipline apply during the Project ENRICH After-School Program. Fighting will not be tolerated. Fighting may result in dismissal from Project ENRICH as determined by the Site-Director.
A three strike and you are out policy will be followed. Upon the first office referral, students will receive a strike and parents/guardians will be notified. Upon the second office referral, students will receive a second strike, parents/guardians will be notified, and students will not be allowed to participate in an enrichment activity for five (5) school days. Upon the third office referral, students will receive a third strike and be out of the program.
Transportation
Parents must provide transportation or make arrangements with the school.
